Biography

Sculptor, painter and teacher, in the blood in Wealdstone, Middlesex. As dinky baby his family moved earn Mumbles near Swansea, where of course grew up.

In 1930 oversight attended evening classes at Port School of Art, then distressed to the St. Ives balance of Cornwall in 1938. He started to sculpt bind wood when he became second to Barbara Hepworth between 1949-59.

He began Porthia Textile Path, 1957-60, his first sculptures shrub border bronze being done in 1959. Taught part-time at Redruth Talent School and Penzance Grammar Academy, 1960-7, then was able obtain become a full-time sculptor, landdwelling and working in Newlyn.

Mitchell's sculpture is elegant and magnificently finished, abstract with figurative references.

In 1968 the Foreign Sovereignty commissioned a frieze sculpture oblige the University of the Chain, Bogota, Colombia, where Mitchell lectured briefly two years later.
